WordAds Activated

Quick Update:  You might remember that a couple months ago I mentioned that I had submitted an application for WordPress’s ad service, WordAds.  Well, today I finally was accepted into their program and now you will see a couple banner ads on top and on the right of the page.  Hopefully I’ll eventually get enough money to offset the cost of maintaining (domain name cost) this site:)  Also, since this blog now has ads, I’ll try to find time to increase the posting output to 2 posts per week until June, and in the summer maybe 3-4 posts per week.  If you have any comments about this change (or anything else) please post in the comment section below.

Awesome Wallpapers Year In Review

Courtesy of the folks at the WordPress.com, here is an animated page summary of the stats from last year.  To see the full report click on the picture below.  Thank you to all my readers!  2011 was a great year.

Here’s an excerpt:

About 1,000,000 people visit the Seattle Space Needle every year. This blog was viewed about 3,800,000 times in 2011. If it were the Space Needle, it would take about 4 years for that many people to see it.

Changes Coming to Awesome Wallpapers

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that there will be some changes happening to this site over the next couple of days. The first one is a new domain name.  I will be purchasing the awesomewallpapersblog.com domain name and traffic will be automatically redirected to that domain instead of awesomewallpapers.wordpress.com.  Purchasing a new domain name allows for greater visibility to search engines, and for different features to be available.  One of those features is the ability to display ads (via wordpress’ ad system, WordAds). I have submitted an application for WordAds, and if everything works well in the process of setting it up, I will experiment with it and try to find a good system of displaying the ads.  I hate annoying ads just as much as the normal user, so the ads I’ll put on my blog will be non-obtrusive.   Displaying ads on my blog will pay for the cost of hosting the new domain, and also help me (hopefully) in paying for college.  I currently am very busy with school, but I also will try to post with more regularity.

Feel free to leave a comment below if you have any questions.

Change in posting frequency

I’m sorry for the lack of posting during the past few weeks.  I usually try to post a wallpaper set two times a week, but with my current homework load, its been hard to even get one posted.  Until the month of June (when school ends for the summer) expect 1, and maybe (if I have time) 2 wallpaper sets a week. Thanks for your understanding,

Admin of AW

P.S. For now I’m sticking with small wallpaper previews because the large previews caused some usability issues.

Results of Poll

Just a small update… Most of you like( or at least are indifferent to) the new theme.  A couple of you commented on the slowness of the page loading, and I realize that this theme is slower than the other one (because of the custom background).  But overall, I think the good outweighs the bad, so I’m going to stick with this theme.  Here are the results of the poll:

New Theme (V4)

Well, as you can see I have switched my blog’s theme to a theme called Coco.  I did this mainly because I thought the previous theme design was getting dull.  Time for a change:)  So what do you think of the new theme?  Please vote in the poll below or leave comment.  Thanks!

How I Customize My Desktop

Instead of the usual wallpaper set I post on Tuesdays, I’m going to do something different. Today I’m going to show you how I customize my desktop and the programs I use to do so. (Click on the screenshots to see them full size)

(Also check out my Wallpaper Utilities Page to see the utilities I use that have to do with wallpapers)

Well, first of all here’s my desktop: Currently I’m using the default Windows 7 logon screen as my wallpaper. Below I’ll list the programs that I use to customize my desktop.

Change in the Frequency of Posting

-You might have noticed the lack of posting lately.  That is because I have started school and have been very busy.  During the rest of the school year I will post about 2-3 wallpaper sets a week, compared to 4-5 when I had no school.

Thanks for your understanding:)
